Bring out your best smile

The Basics

What does a Chapel Hill cosmetic dentist do?

Cosmetic dentistry improves the color, shape, size, and alignment of your teeth while keeping them healthy and functional. Your first visit with a Chapel Hill cosmetic dentist at Meadowmont Dentistry starts with one question: what bothers you when you look in the mirror? Your answer shapes the plan.

Then we look at your dental health. If you suffer from grinding, an uneven bite, decay, gum trouble, or crowding, we take care of that first. Our intra-oral cameras let you see the same picture we do, so the conversation is about your actual teeth on a screen.

We’ve been in Meadowmont Village since 2001, and we handle almost all of this in-house, which means fewer referrals and the same faces at every appointment.

Preview

See your new smile before you commit to it

You can preview your cosmetic result at our office before any permanent work begins. That matters most with veneers, where the change is large and the change is permanent.

A digital preview of the result

We scan your teeth with one of our three iTero scanners and build a digital preview of what veneers would look like on you. Every impression we take is digital, so there is no tray of putty involved. You get to see proportions, edge shapes, and how the new smile sits against your lips before we prepare a single tooth.

Temporary veneers you can wear

A screen only tells you so much, so we also make temporary veneers and let you test the smile in real life. You eat with them, talk with them, and look at them in your own bathroom mirror. If something reads too long, too bulky, or brighter than you want, we change it before the lab builds the final set.

Treatments

Aesthetic treatments at Meadowmont Dentistry

Our cosmetic menu covers a wide array of services, and we can plan them together when needed. Our practice also belongs to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Porcelain veneers

Veneers are thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of your teeth to change shape, color, and spacing. A dental lab makes every veneer we place, which ensures the strongest and most esthetic result. We also offer no-prep veneers, which take little or none of your natural enamel away.

Explore Veneers

Teeth whitening

We whiten teeth in the office and with take-home trays, and both use KoR. We have used KoR for over ten years and still consider it the best whitening system in dentistry. For touch-ups between visits, we keep Opalescence over-the-counter products on hand. New patients get a complimentary whitening pen, and Invisalign patients get complimentary whitening once the case is complete.

Bonding and small corrections

Bonding uses tooth-colored composite resin to rebuild a chipped corner, close a small gap, or smooth an edge that catches your lip. It is the same material we use for fillings, so the repair blends into the tooth. For a small complaint on one or two teeth, this is often all you need.

Straightening with Invisalign

Invisalign moves teeth with a series of clear removable aligners. Dr. Wilson has particular expertise here.

Straight teeth are easier to keep clean, which means healthier gums and less cavity risk. Patients tell us the forces feel light, so treatment brings no pain or soreness, and the aligners come out for brushing and flossing. Every case we finish includes complimentary whitening and four sets of retainers.

Explore Invisalign

Reshaping the gumline

Crown lengthening reshapes the gumline when teeth look short or the gums sit at uneven heights, and we can often finish it in one visit. For soft tissue we prefer our NV Pro diode laser. When the bone underneath also needs contouring, we use a traditional flap and osseous approach instead.

Porcelain crowns, inlays, and onlays

A tooth with a big old filling or a fracture through it needs more coverage than a veneer can give. We place porcelain crowns in Zirconia and Emax, and inlays and onlays in porcelain or gold when a chewing surface needs rebuilding. This porcelain comes from our dental lab rather than a mill in our office.

Smile Makeover

Putting it together as a smile makeover

A smile makeover is one sequenced plan that combines several of these treatments. Yours might pair Invisalign with whitening, or whitening with a few veneers and a little gumline work. We map the order at the consultation so each step sets up the next one, and we tell you what each stage costs before it starts.

Bigger cases get the same test-drive treatment. As part of every full-arch and full-mouth restoration, we place a temporary prosthesis first. You wear it, we watch how it works and how it reads on your face, and we settle function and esthetics before anyone builds the final one.

Our Approach

How do we keep cosmetic work conservative?

At Meadowmont Dentistry, we recommend the smallest change that gets you the result you asked for. Bonding sometimes solves what someone came in assuming would take veneers. Moving a tooth with Invisalign sometimes means less porcelain later, or none. No-prep veneers exist for the same reason: keep the enamel you have when the case allows it.

We will never recommend treatment you don’t need. Every plan starts with an honest conversation about what is happening, what your options are, and what makes sense for your life and your budget, and we talk you through what we are doing before we do it. There’s no pressure and no upsell.

TECHNOLOGY

Modern tools, better outcomes

Our doctors invest heavily in technology because it makes treatment more accurate, more comfortable, and more predictable. Some of the tools you will see at your visits:

Itero Lumina digital scanners
(no more goopy impressions)
Sirona Galileos XG3D Cone Beam CT
Overjet AI cavity and lesion detection
Velscope oral cancer screening
NV Pro Diode Lasers for soft-tissue work
Ostell for implant stability testing
Galaxis implant planning software
MouthWatch intraoral cameras
(so you can see exactly what we see)

Sedation & Comfort

Care that feels easy

We know dental visits are not everyone’s favorite part of the week. That is why we offer oral sedation for patients who feel anxious, along with pillows, blankets, noise-cancelling headphones, and bottled water at every appointment. Most patients tell us the visit was much easier than they expected, and a lot of them tell us they actually look forward to coming back.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does cosmetic dentistry cost?

Cost depends on how many teeth we treat and what each one needs. You get the full figure before you agree to anything, and Natalie Johnson, our Office Manager and Treatment Coordinator, walks you through the cost and payment options.

Am I a good candidate for cosmetic dentistry?

Most people are, as long as the teeth and gums underneath are healthy. A consultation with a Chapel Hill cosmetic dentist here starts with an exam, and we check for decay, gum disease, grinding, and bite problems before we discuss anything cosmetic, because those decide whether a result will last. If we find something, we treat it first and then come back to the smile.

How long do the results last?

The honest answer depends on your bite, your habits, and how well you maintain the work at home. What we can promise is this: with regular checkups and good home care, if something we placed breaks or fails, we repair or replace it at no charge.

Does dental insurance cover cosmetic dentistry?

Usually not. Dental plans generally treat cosmetic work as elective and pay nothing toward it. We are out of network with every dental insurance plan, and we file your claims for you either way, so anything with a restorative side to it gets in front of your carrier. Natalie will tell you what to expect from your plan before you commit to treatment.

How long does cosmetic treatment take?

It varies by treatment, and we give you the schedule at the consultation. We can often finish crown lengthening in a single visit. Veneers take more than one, because you wear temporaries and test them while the lab builds your final set from what we learn. Invisalign runs the longest of the options here, and the number of aligners depends on how far your teeth have to move.

Can I preview my new smile first?

Yes. We build a digital preview of your smile with veneers, and we make temporary veneers you can wear and live with before we order the final ones. Full-arch and full-mouth cases get a temporary prosthesis for the same reason. We do not make anything permanent until you have seen a version of it and told us what to change.

Payment and Insurance

Honest, flexible, easy to plan around

We are out of network with all dental insurance plans, but we file claims on your behalf so you only pay your estimated portion at the time of service. We accept cash, checks, credit cards, and most major financing through CareCredit and Sunbit. Custom payment arrangements are also available for qualifying treatment.

Our Treatment Coordinator will walk you through every cost before treatment begins, with no surprises and no pressure.
