What a veneer changes, and what it leaves alone
A veneer is a cosmetic answer to how a tooth looks, not a repair for how a tooth works. That distinction decides most of the conversations we have about veneers, so we start there.
What veneers handle well
Veneers cover the visible surface of a tooth, which means one restoration can correct several complaints at once. Teeth that stayed dull after whitening, chipped or worn edges, a small gap between the front two, a tooth that sits a little behind its neighbor, one tooth that never matched the rest after an old repair. We plan those cases as a set rather than one tooth at a time, because the front teeth are read together.
What veneers cannot fix
A veneer will not treat decay, hold together a cracked tooth, replace missing structure, or cure gum disease. It also does not move teeth; it changes how they read. When we find any of that, we take care of it first or point you to the treatment that actually addresses it. We will never recommend treatment you do not need, and covering a problem with porcelain counts as treatment you do not need.
Can I see my veneers before I commit to them?
Yes. At Meadowmont Dentistry, we show you the new smile twice before it becomes permanent, once on a screen and once in your mouth. This is the part of our process we would most want you to compare against anywhere else you are looking.
A digital preview of your new smile
We scan your teeth with one of our three iTero digital scanners, so there are no impression trays and nothing to hold still for, and we build a digital preview of what veneers would do to your smile. You see that preview before we touch a tooth. If the shapes read too long, too square, or too matched, that is the cheapest possible moment to say so. Our MouthWatch intraoral camera puts the same close-up view of your teeth on the screen that we are looking at, so you are working from the same picture we are.
Temporary veneers you can live in for a while
Before we order the final veneers, we can place temporary veneers so you can test drive the smile in real life. You eat with them, talk through a workday with them, see them in photographs, and watch how the people who see you every morning react. Then you come back and tell us what to adjust. We use the same test drive approach in our full-arch and full-mouth cases, with a temporary prosthesis first, because a smile that looks right in a rendering still has to work when you are using it.
No-prep veneers, and how conservative we can be
No-prep veneers are thin enough to bond over a tooth with little or none of the enamel removed, and we offer them at Meadowmont Dentistry. Conventional veneers usually call for reducing a small amount of enamel so the porcelain sits flush instead of looking thick at the gumline.
Whether your teeth suit the no-prep approach depends on how they sit now and how much room a thin shell has to occupy. We check that during your consultation and the digital preview, and we tell you plainly which option your teeth can take. What we will not do is talk you into removing more tooth than your case needs because it makes the lab work easier. Enamel is the one thing on this page you cannot get back.
Why a dental lab makes every veneer we place
A dental lab crafts every veneer we place at Meadowmont Dentistry, and we never mill one in the office, because that is how we get the strongest and most esthetic result. We do not offer same-day milled veneers, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a gap in our equipment.
Our reasoning is straightforward. A ceramist working by hand has room to build color and translucency into porcelain in layers, and the upper front teeth are exactly where that difference shows in ordinary daylight. Sending a case out costs time you would not spend with a chairside mill. We think the trade is worth it for your front teeth, and we would rather tell you that directly than pretend the faster version is the same product.
What the process looks like, step by step
Veneer treatment at Meadowmont Dentistry moves through a predictable set of stages: an honest conversation, a digital scan and preview, preparation where it is needed, temporaries you wear and judge, lab fabrication, and the appointment where we bond the finals.
- The conversation first: We ask what bothers you about your smile and what you want it to do, then we look at your teeth, your gums, and your bite before anyone says the word veneer.
- The scan and the preview: We take a digital scan with our iTero scanners and show you a preview of the proposed result, and you tell us what to change about shape, length, and shade.
- Whitening, when it belongs first: If you plan to brighten your natural teeth, it generally makes sense to do that before we lock a veneer shade, since porcelain will not lighten later and we want the match made against your brightened teeth.
- Preparation, or very little of it: Depending on your case, we either shape a small amount of enamel or take the no-prep route, and we tell you which before we start.
- The temporary test drive: You wear temporary veneers and live with the new smile long enough to have a real opinion about it.
- The lab: Our ceramist makes your veneers to the design you approved, using the scans, the photographs, and your feedback on the temporaries.
- The day they go on: We try the veneers in, check the fit and the bite, get your sign-off in a mirror, and bond them. Then we bring you back to make sure everything settled the way it should.

Is a veneer actually the right answer for you?
A veneer earns its place when the tooth is healthy and the change you want is cosmetic, and it is the wrong call when something simpler or something more thorough would serve you better. Here is how we talk through the alternatives at Meadowmont Dentistry.
When bonding is the smaller, smarter fix
Bonding uses tooth-colored composite resin that we shape directly onto your tooth in one appointment. For a single chipped corner, a rough edge, or a minor reshape, bonding removes less tooth and asks less of you than a veneer does. We suggest it more often than patients expect us to.
When whitening is the only thing you need
If the shape of your teeth suits you and color is the whole complaint, whitening is the simpler place to start. We use KoR for both in-office and take-home whitening, a system we have used for ten years and consider the best in dentistry, plus Opalescence products for touch-ups. New patients get a complimentary whitening pen. Whitening also matters if veneers are on the table, because brightening your natural teeth first gives us a better target to match the porcelain to.
When the tooth needs a crown instead
A veneer faces a tooth. A crown covers the whole thing. If a tooth carries a large old filling, a crack, or too little remaining structure to support a facing, we recommend a crown in porcelain such as zirconia or Emax, in porcelain fused to metal, or in gold. Those come from the lab as well, since we do not make crowns in the office in a single visit.
When teeth need moving rather than covering
Crooked teeth can be covered with porcelain or moved with clear aligners, and moving them keeps more of your own tooth. We offer Invisalign for adults and teens, and Invisalign First for younger children. Sometimes the honest plan is aligners first and one or two veneers afterward, rather than a full set of veneers doing work that orthodontics could do better.
Caring for veneers, and what happens if one fails
Veneers need the same brushing, flossing, and regular checkups your natural teeth need, and at Meadowmont Dentistry we repair what we place at no charge when it does not hold up. Porcelain resists staining better than enamel does, but the tooth and the gum around a veneer still behave like a tooth and a gum, so the margins are where your flossing matters most.
Tell us if you grind or clench at night before we plan anything. Grinding changes what we recommend, how we design the veneers, and what we do to protect them afterward, and we would rather know at the consultation than at the repair appointment.
We stand behind our work. With regular checkups and good home care, if something we placed breaks, fails, or does not hold up, we fix it at no charge. That covers the veneers we place. It is also part of why we send cases to a lab and take the extra time to get them right the first time.

We price veneers per veneer, and the total depends on how many teeth you are treating and what each one needs before a veneer goes on, so we do not publish a figure for Chapel Hill veneers that would be wrong for most of the people reading it. Does dental insurance cover veneers?
Dental insurance generally does not cover veneers, because plans treat cosmetic work as elective and pay only toward treatment they consider necessary. We are out of network with every dental insurance plan, and we file your claims for you regardless, so if any part of your treatment does qualify you are not chasing the paperwork yourself.
How many visits does getting veneers take?
That depends on how many teeth we are treating, whether your case suits no-prep veneers, and how long you want to wear the temporaries before you decide. Because a lab makes our veneers, fabrication time is part of the schedule, which is why this is not a one-afternoon procedure with us. You get the appointment plan at your consultation.
Can I really see the result before I commit?
Yes, and twice. We build a digital preview from a scan of your teeth, and we can place temporary veneers so you can wear the new smile before we order the final ones. Both of those happen before anything permanent goes on your teeth.
Should I get veneers, bonding, or whitening?
Whitening changes color only. Bonding repairs and reshapes small areas with composite in a single appointment. Veneers change color, shape, and apparent position across a tooth or a whole set of front teeth, and they ask the most of your teeth and your budget. Our advice is to start with the least treatment that gets you the result you want, and we will tell you honestly which one that is.
